The Village Square. and the fire of 1994.
The picture on the left shows Stogursey Village Square 2001,with the cottages being as they were 400 years ago. Not too much here to break the solitude or cause excitement apart from the occasional street market and the visits of the traditional Morris Men. Imagine the excitement on a summers day in 1994 when flames suddenly appeared, coming from the roof of the thatched cottage.
A spark from a chimney caused the blaze and no one was hurt, but because the building was listed, it had to be repaired and re-thatched as you can see in the top picture.
